Why not just use an EQ?
You could. Here’s what you’d be doing by hand.
| An EQ in your DAW | ||
|---|---|---|
| Finding the boom | A scan finds it | You hunt by ear |
| Other apps | Every app on your Mac | Only your DAW |
| Your exports | Never touched | Bypass it before every bounce |
| New speakers or room | Switches for you | Redo it yourself |
Remove the boom. Don’t fight physics.
Only cuts, never boosts
Quiet, gentle test tones
Quit, and your sound is back
Nothing leaves your Mac
Why doesn’t Unboom turn anything up?
Where a bass note goes missing, your room is cancelling it at your seat. Turning it up only works your speakers harder, and the note still doesn’t come back. So Unboom only turns down the notes that boom.

Questions
Do I need a measurement microphone?
No. Your Mac’s microphone works, or you can find the boom by ear.
Will it change how my monitors sound?
Only where your room booms. It turns down a narrow slice of bass, and your mids and highs are never touched.
Does it replace acoustic treatment?
No. Bass traps still help. Unboom tames the boom that’s left.
Does it work with Bluetooth speakers?
Yes, but a cable gives the most reliable result.
What happens after the trial?
Scans stay free. Correcting your Mac’s audio needs the one-time unlock.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac running macOS 14.2 or later.
